Grab a cup of coffee and join us on Zoom to hear Edina City Council member Carolyn Jackson present City Hall, Public Forums and the First Amendment: Oh My! Jackson was elected to the City Council in November 2020. A lawyer by profession, she has worked at private law firms, on political campaigns and as s staff member for the ACLU of Minnesota.

Jackson presents a dilemma: Providing space in the City Council Chambers creates a limited public forum. Broadcasting these events over the City’s media including cable television creates another limited public forum. What happens when non-City events in the Chambers turn controversial? A look into city policies, the First Amendment, and offensive messages.
