Thursday, February 28 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
The League of Women Voters Edina welcomes you to learn more about the types, challenges and complexities of immigration. Our forum will begin with presentations by two immigration law experts:
Scott Borene is founder and Managing Attorney of the Borene Law Firm, P.A. He has practiced immigration law for over 35 years, concentrating on employment-related and business immigration matters. He handles primarily cases involving scientific, technical and health professionals, educators, executives, investors and entrepreneurs.

She joined the staff of the Advocates in 1999 to represent asylum seekers and detained immigrants. Today, she leads the organization’s research, education and advocacy team and is responsible for The Advocates’ domestic priority issues, including migration and human trafficking.
Next, we will hear from several community members about their experiences immigrating to the U.S.
Ukasha Dakane is founder and Executive Director of Fortune Relief and Youth Empowerment Organization (FRAYEO). He works to help immigrants and refugee families in Minneapolis and Edina build pathways out of poverty.
Dr. Ankita Deka is an Associate Professor of Social Work at Augsburg University, primarily teaching in the Masters of Social Work (MSW) program. Her research focuses on racial health disparities, global social work and South Asian immigrant issues.
Janet Kitui works in the State of Minnesota Department of Employment & Economic Development. A mother and grandmother, she is a strong advocate for human rights and social, political, economic and environmental justice.
Q & A moderated by LWVE will follow the presentations.
