2020 U.S. Census – Why It Matters
Thursday, March 28 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Please join the League of Women Voters Edina to learn more about the 2020 U.S. Census and why it matters.
The 2020 census is critical for states, counties, and communities:
- For representation – Minnesota is at risk of losing a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.
- For funding – Federal funds are distributed to states based on data derived from the Census.
- For planning – Minnesota’s demographics are shifting; how will this impact community needs?
- For business – Chambers of Commerce and other organizations in Minnesota use census data.
Andrew Virden, Director of Census Operations and Engagement with the Minnesota State Demographic Center, will present and answer questions from the audience.
Andrew’s work applies his knowledge of the Census, recruiting and field operations and his expertise in community organizing to help ensure that Minnesota gets an accurate 2020 Census count. Andrew holds an M.A. in Public Affairs with a concentration in Leadership and Management from the U of M Humphrey School of Public Affairs.
The Center is the main provider of demographic data and analysis for the State of Minnesota, and serves as an official liaison to the U.S. Census Bureau.
All are welcome! We encourage you to register for a free ticket, but please feel free to attend without one.
