Join us and Edina Reads as we discuss The Sum of Us: What Racism Costs Everyone and How We Can Prosper Together, by Heather McGhee. This New York Times best seller, which won many awards, is a “…powerful exploration of inequality and the lessons that generations of Americans have failed to learn: Racism has a cost for everyone – not just people of color.”

McGhee is an expert in economic and social policy. This book explores why the American economy so often fails the American public. Although McGhee’s research finds that racism is a root cause of those failures, her findings debunk the idea that progress for some of us must come at the expense of others. The book gives us a vision of future benefits we all gain when people work together across racial divides.

Our presenter will be Jasmine Brett Stringer. She is an author, speaker, founder of #SHARETHEMICMN, Edina Community Foundation Board member and Vice-Chair of Edina’s Human Rights & Relations Commission. Jasmine’s remarks will be followed by small group discussions and large group sharing.
