League of Women Voters Edina Candidate Forums
The League of Women Voters Edina will be facilitating candidate forums for three local general election races. Due to COVID-19 safety concerns, there will be no live audience for the forums but all will be available for viewing here after the dates listed below. Members of the community, including students, are encouraged to submit questions.
September 3: MN Senate District 49 Candidate Forum
The candidates are: incumbent Melisa Lopez Franzen (DFL) and Julie Dupre (GOP)
September 10: MN House District 49A and 49B Candidate Forum
The District 49A incumbent candidate Heather Edelson (DFL) is running unopposed. District 49B candidates are: incumbent Steve Elkins (DFL) and Joe Thalman (GOP).
September 17: City of Edina Mayor and City Council Candidate Forum
James B. Hovland is the incumbent mayoral candidate running unopposed. The City Council candidates seeking election for two vacant seats are: Joshua Ahlberg, Rhonda Bland, Ukasha Dukane, Carolyn Jackson, Janet Kitui, Parinaz Kassemi, and James Pierce.
The general election is Tuesday, November 3. Due to COVID-19, the League of Women Voters is encouraging everyone to vote from home – it is easy, safe, and secure. The state of Minnesota suggests requesting your ballot by Friday, October 2 in order to receive it, complete it, and return it by November 3. You can request your mail in ballot at mnvotes.org.
Candidate Forum: Hennepin County Commissioner District 6
The League of Women Voters of Edina, Minnetonka-Eden Prairie-Hopkins, South Tonka and Wayzata-Plymouth Area hosted a Hennepin County Commissioner District 6 Candidate Forum (via Zoom) on June 18th, 2020. There will be a primary August 11 and the two candidates who receive the most votes will move on to the General Election November 3.
